COVID ANTIBODY TESTING
We are pleased to announce that we have received approval from the PA State Department of Health to begin Covid-19 Antibody testing in our lab.
This is not the finger-stick type test that you may have seen on the news. Our Abbott Architect test is proven to be highly accurate by several university studies, and is the same test that is run at Quest Laboratories. It has been authorized by the FDA under an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA), and the sample is obtained by a blood draw.
Antibody testing is NOT used to determine if you currently have Covid-19. It is a test to see if your body has produced antibodies to the virus, which means you likely were exposed or infected in the past. At this time, it is unknown how long the antibodies persist following infection, and if the presence of antibodies gives protective immunity.
IMPORTANT: We will not test anyone who currently has symptoms! This test must be done more than 5 weeks after start of symptoms or exposure. Antibodies take time to develop - taking the test too early may not give accurate results.
We can also test patients who did not have symptoms in the past few months, but would like to know if they were exposed.
If you are interested in Covid-19 Antibody testing, we can draw your blood sample when you come in for your next appointment or for other lab tests.
You may also contact our office to schedule a Lab Appointment by calling 717-244-4531.
Available hours are Mon - Fri from 8-12, and Saturday 8-10 am.
Note: Insurance companies are mandated to cover this testing at no cost to the patient. But if you would like to check with your insurance company, the CPT code is 86769. Cash price is $55
